Taking Home Your Goats
.You need BLUE salt licks, (the more they lick the more they pee, this helps reduce urine crystals)
.If you have male goats, giving a pinch of SEA SALT in their food will also help with urine crystals
.2nd cut Local hay is what we feed the goats at the farm. Feed a flake in the morning and a flake at nighttime.
.½ cup of 16% dairy grain twice a day, per two goats. They only need the grain until they are a year old. After that you can choose if you wish to continue feeding them the grain or just feed them hay. If you notice the goats have diarrhea STOP feeding them grain until their stools return to normal.
.Limit the amount of grass they eat until they get used to it, grass can also make a goat sick. The wetter the grass the greater a chance the goats can bloat.
We give the shots at 3 months of age. You may choose to have your vet do the shots, or you can get the shots made up and do them yourself.
All shots are based on weight, these amounts are based on the goats as babies, please refer to your vet for proper dosage as your goats get older.
.¼ cc Selon-E (selenium) it is to be given in the muscle. This shot is done twice a year
.2cc Tasvax 8 (Tetanus) it is a Sub Q shot given once a year. A booster is needed six weeks after you take the goats home.
.1cc Valbazen (wormer) is an oral medication. Given every 6 months.
